Five years. One community. Just getting started.

Five years ago, we opened the doors to CrossFit Port Clinton with a vision, a whole lot of uncertainty, and a belief that this community deserved something better than a generic gym membership. We had no idea what the next five years would look like. We just knew we had to try.

Today, standing on the other side of 1,825 days, we can say with full hearts: this has exceeded everything we dreamed it would be. Not because of any award or metric — but because of you. In the U.S., about 50% of new businesses fail within their first five years, meaning only half survive to the halfway mark. We survived because of you, and we couldn't be more thankful.

What they don't tell you about opening a gym

Running a CrossFit affiliate is not glamorous work. Behind every class you walk into is an invisible mountain of effort that most members never see — and that's exactly how it should be. But on a milestone like this, it feels right to pull back the curtain a little.

There were 3AM alarm clocks to prep programming before the first class of the day. Equipment purchases that stretched the budget to its limit. Weekends spent cleaning, repairing, painting, organizing. Late nights studying certifications, reading the latest research on movement, nutrition, and coaching, trying to be just a little better tomorrow than we were today.

There were the hard seasons — Members we had to say goodbye to when they moved away. Hard conversations. Moments of self-doubt where we wondered whether the sacrifices were worth it.

"Every barbell unloaded, every whiteboard erased, every 'good job today' at the door — it was all done because we genuinely believe this work matters."

None of it was done for recognition. It was done because we genuinely believe this work matters. That getting strong, moving well, and belonging to something bigger than yourself is one of the most valuable things a person can invest in. We still believe that — more than ever.

To our members: thank you

To every member who has ever walked through our doors — thank you. You are not just customers. You are the reason CrossFit Port Clinton exists. You trusted us with something deeply personal: your health, your time, your effort, and your vulnerability in learning new things and pushing past limits you didn't know you had.

Thank you to the founding members who took a chance on us when we were brand new and unproven. You could have driven to a bigger city, chosen a shinier facility, or just stayed home. You didn't. You showed up, you put in the work, and you told your friends — and that word-of-mouth is the reason we're still here.

Thank you to the members who checked on their fellow athletes. Who stayed after class to celebrate someone's first pull-up. Who brought food to the gym social events, who showed up on the hard days, who texted a missing member to make sure they were okay. You are the culture of this place. We built the programming; you built the community.

Thank you for the feedback — the honest kind, delivered with care — that helped us grow. For the patience when we were figuring things out. For the grace you extended on the days when nothing went perfectly. You gave us the room to learn, and we are better coaches and people because of it. Thank you to our friends who have turned into family and aunts and uncles to our children. Thank you for the hugs and the shoulders to cry on when hard moments and convesations were shared.

And thank you for simply believing in what we were trying to build — a place in Port Clinton where people of any age, any fitness level, any background could walk in, be welcomed, and leave better than they arrived.

What's next: a new chapter

We are thrilled to share that CrossFit Port Clinton is expanding and moving to a new location — and it's the most excited we've been since the day we first opened our doors.

Five years of growth means five years of learning what our members need, what great coaching requires, and what a world-class CrossFit facility looks like. Our new space will give us the room to deliver on all of it — more floor space, dedicated areas for personal training, 1:1 meetings, and an environment that matches the quality of the community that fills it every day. Our general contractor, Teric Cook, has delivered on the top notch facility we dreamed of creating, and we can't wait to show you all soon.

This move isn't about ego or expansion for its own sake. It's about serving you better. Every square foot of the new location has been planned with our members in mind — the 5 AM crew, the lunchtime warriors, the evening classes, the competitors, the people who just want to feel good moving through life. There will be room for all of you, and then some.

More details — including the timeline, and some exciting announcements — are coming very soon. We can't wait to share everything with you.

Five years ago, we planted a seed in Port Clinton. You watered it with your sweat, your commitment, and your trust. What's growing now is something none of us could have built alone.

Here's to five more — and everything beyond.

With gratitude and chalk-dusted hands,

Lexis & Brett Bauer
